Support on your road in recovery!
We are recovering addicts helping other recovering addicts with little life struggles along their journey.
All members of BLH are in recovery and have had our personal experiences along the way, while having some time in recovery. Where we didn't know what we were going to do while working, paying bills, trying to fix the wreckage of our past, maintaining a life of sobriety, and continuing to grow to better ourselves in our journey. We know the feeling of being overwhelmed and feeling like you just can't catch a break even though you are doing all the right things.
We all know that in everyday life things come up, but to an addict doing all the right things, it could be that 1 thing that sets them over the edge or gets them very depressed. Many things that seem minor to a person, could shatter an addicts spirt and make them start with the negative destructive thinking.... is this all sobriety is? Why am I even bothering, I should just go get drunk/ high. Does anyone truly care, and then they start to feel very alone.
EXAMPLE: A female after 3 years sober finally gets an apartment and gets her kid back. It is Christmas time and she wants to decorate the apartment to give them a nice 1st Christmas together again, but she has no extra cash with the new bills, taking care of a kid, trying to catch up and find a balance. So she starts to feel bad and down on herself like she is not worthy of everything she has gotten. Doesn't see all the good that she has accomplished, she is just focusing on the 1 thing that she feels she is failing at, all because of Christmas decorations. Most Charities or organizations don't help with issues like that. They don't see the importance of helping her decorate her apartment for Christmas, but to her, her child and recovery it is very important. It gives her a sense of accomplishment. A little more hope that recovery is possible and that she is worth it.
That's where Because Life Happens come in, to help with those little life struggles that some might not realize how truly important they really are.
Sometimes all you need is a little support just....BECAUSE LIFE HAPPENS!!
BLH is a 501 3C non-profit dedicated to helping those who are sober and living in recovery that need a little help when life just happens, no matter where someone might be on their recovery journey. There are so many organizations that focus on the newly sober individual, helping them to get back on their feet. We hope to be able to fill those gaps for those already living a life in sobriety.
Our Mission is to help the greater recovery community by continuing to spread awareness of struggles that frequently arise in one's recovery journey and that remaining sober is still possible. To provide awareness, hope, and support for whatever these issues may be, with either providing resources, financial aid, along with safe fun sober events where individuals can network with others in recovery.
A businessman went by and the addict called out for help.. The businessman threw him some money and told him to buy himself a Ladder.
But the addict could not buy a ladder in the hole he was in.
A doctor walked by.
The addict said "Help! I can't get out!" The doctor gave him some drugs and said, "Take this. It will relieve the pain."
The addict said thanks, but when the pills ran out, he was still in the hole.
A well-known psychiatrist rode by and heard the addicts cries for help. He stopped and asked, "How did you get here? Were you born there? Did your parents put you there? Tell me about yourself, it will alleviate your sense of loneliness."
So the addict talked with him for an hour, then the psychiatrist had to leave, but he said he'd come back next week.
The addict thanked him, but he was still in the hole.
A priest came by. The addict called for help. The Priest gave him a bible and said, "I'll say a prayer for you." He got down on his knees and prayed for the addict, then he left.
The addict was very grateful, he read the bible, but he was still stuck in the hole.
A recovering addict happened to be passing by. The addict cried out, "Hey, Help me. I'm stuck in this hole!"
Right away the recovering addict jumped down in the hole with him.
The addict said, "What are you doing? Now we're both stuck here!!"
But the recovering addict said, "Calm Down. It's okay. I've been here before.
I know How to get out."
